Launching of gas powered car – passenger ferry

The launching ceremony, the second this year, took place in Remontowa Shipbuilding on Thursday, 27 of March 2014. The launched vessel will be the first one car – passenger ferry with gas propulsion in European Union. The contract for realization of this project Shipyard won by open European tender for a “turn-key” LNG supply solution for ferry operation announced by SAMSØ Kommune, located in Denmark, in the region of Jutland Peninsula. In 1997 SAMSØ Kommune was selected to become Denmark’s first renewable energy island. Focusing on renewable energy and environmentally friendly solutions, Samsø achieved that goal in 2003. Today, the island is an exporter of power which comes from wind power in 100% per cent. In accordance with generally accepted pro–environmental policy, the ordered ferry will also meet high ecological requirements.

The gas power propulsion, used for this vessel will reduce nitrogen and the CO2 emissions to the atmosphere significantly.

The project of the vessel was elaborated by polish design office Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting. The companies associated within REMONTOWA HOLDING deliver key equipment for the ferry: FUO RUMIA – Gas / Diesel Electric system; Hydroster – Ro-Ro cargo system with bow and stern hydraulic operated visors; FAMOS – completeinterior furniture of the vessel, ie, passenger lounges, crew cabins and commercial spaces on passenger boards.
