The Firefighter-28 awarded Best Large FiFi Boat

The firefighting vessel Strażak-28, built for the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, has been named Best Large FiFi Boat in the 2023 Workboat World Best ranking by Australian publisher Baird Maritime. This is one of the world’s best-known specialist maritime media, particularly in workboats, with headquarters in Melbourne and a publishing subsidiary in Hong Kong, which includes BairdMaritime.com and WorkBoatWorld.com.

Every year, the Australians review the most interesting ship designs, from which they select the most notable. In 2023, Baird Maritime published profiles of more than 400 new ships delivered by shipyards worldwide, highlighting their features in terms of design, use of materials, construction methods, equipment, innovations applied, and even styling.

Safety and economics are obvious, but sustainability, environmental protection, recyclability, durability, workmanship, comfort, usability, ease of operation and maintenance costs are equally important.

The ice-classed Strażak-28 was recognised for its design (including its agility and manoeuvrability), versatility and fitting of state-of-the-art systems, enabling her to perform a variety of tasks, such as towing (bollard pull of 45 tonnes), fire protection during cargo handling and transport of hazardous materials by tankers carrying flammable gases and liquids (such as LNG), oil spill recovery, SAR operations and other workboat applications.

The Firefighter-28 is another ship from Remontowa Shipbuilding, after the vessels built here for the Maritime Authorities, awarded the title of World’s Best Workboat by the Australian publisher in previous years.
