Christening ceremony at Remontowa Shipbuilding

The official naming ceremony for the modern car – passenger ferry ordered by the largest passenger ferry line in North America and the second largest in the world was held on November 24,2015.

Cooperation with the Owner began in July 2014 signing the contract for the construction of three gas powered ferries. These will be the first vessels in the currently 36 ship fleet, utilizing Dual Fuel engines capable of running both in Diesel and LNG mode. Each of the vessels will be capable of taking on board 150 personal cars and almost 600 passengers.

Thanks to implementation of the highest technology, new ferries will significantly increase transport possibilities and provide high level of passenger safety.

The vessel was christened according to maritime tradition by the vessel sponsor, Margaret McDonagh,BC Ferries’ Senior Chief Steward on the Queen of Burnaby.

The name of the ferry – Salish Orca honors the Coast Salish people and indicates the region of operation.
